Dust Detectives in Action
The School DustWatch pilot project is engaging
remote kids in science whilst educating the
scientist about remote dust.
School DustWatch Objectives
- Provide students with real life learning experiences.
- Integrate learning across the curriculum.
- Enthuse students to participate in science.
- Provide students with the opportunity to practice
skills in technology, data collection and communication.
- Provide remote students the opportunity to function in a
real research team interacting with field and laboratory scientist.
Where is School DustWatch?
- The current pilot project is being conducted
at six remote Northern Territory schools.
- The map of Australia highlights the gaps in Australia's
wind erosion monitoring program.
- Observations are being made by government,
the public and now the dust detectives!
Participating in School DustWatch has real life benefits
The students engage in science with a subject which they are familiar
with — dust! The national monitoring of wind erosion improves
with schools filling the spatial gaps in the monitoring network.
The scientists learn through invaluable local knowledge.
Expansion beyond the pilot project is planned. Will you come and help look for
Dustee?
